Fed up with noisy neighbors and their loud music, depriving you of solace in your haven? Sometimes you may have a
tough time since this is a delicate issue and you do not want to antagonize your
neighbors in any way. Don’t despair as there is a perfect solution for you
which can prove to be a wonderful investment in every sense of the word for you
in the long run. Sound proofing your home can offer you a permanent respite and
good news as there are a number of options available these days to sound proof
your home. However if you have the resources and finances to get your home
professionally sound proofed, this would be the best possible option. A word of caution here –
most contractors THINK they know how to soundproof walls and ceilings. The truth is that most of them do not. It will be necessary for you to familiarize
yourself with the current soundproofing products available today. Some of the products are sound isolation clips, damping compounds, mass
loaded vinyl, sound control underlayment and acoustic insulation just
to name few. Then interview potential contractors and ask them about these
products. If they don’t know about them
or have not used them…they are the wrong contractor. You can only achieve excellent acoustic insulation and vibration control with the right
combination of products and a contractor that knows how to use them. Good products in a bad or inexperienced
contractors hand will still yield poor results.
It is advisable to go in for products which have been recommended
by an expert in sound proofing after explaining what exactly your sound
proofing needs are.
Soundproofing
floor/ ceilings assemblies and walls is a very different task. Be
wary of companies that tell you that this one product, mass loaded vinyl for
example, is good for every soundproofing application. It’s not. There are dozens of different
products available today and they all do something a bit different. However you bear in mind sound proofing can
be done within a reasonable budget and does not necessarily have to cost the
earth. In most cases soundproofing can be done on common walls between
neighbors but just make sure that whoever you hire knows what they are doing.
