Noisy Neighbors? SoundProofing Your Home is the Perfect Solution

Fed up with noisy neighbors and their loud music, depriving you of solace in your haven? Sometimes you may have a tough time since this is a delicate issue and you do not want to antagonize your neighbors in any way. Don’t despair as there is a perfect solution for you which can prove to be a wonderful investment in every sense of the word for you in the long run. Sound proofing your home can offer you a permanent respite and good news as there are a number of options available these days to sound proof your home. However if you have the resources and finances to get your home professionally sound proofed, this would be the best possible option. A word of caution here – most contractors THINK they know how to soundproof walls and ceilings.  The truth is that most of them do not.  It will be necessary for you to familiarize yourself with the current soundproofing products available today.  Some of the products are sound isolation clips, damping compounds, mass loaded vinyl, sound control underlayment and acoustic insulation just to name few. Then interview potential contractors and ask them about these products.  If they don’t know about them or have not used them…they are the wrong contractor.  You can only achieve excellent acoustic insulation and vibration control with the right combination of products and a contractor that knows how to use them.  Good products in a bad or inexperienced contractors hand will still yield poor results.

It is advisable to go in for products which have been recommended by an expert in sound proofing after explaining what exactly your sound proofing needs are.

Soundproofing floor/ ceilings assemblies and walls is a very different task. Be wary of companies that tell you that this one product, mass loaded vinyl for example, is good for every soundproofing application.  It’s not. There are dozens of different products available today and they all do something a bit different.  However you bear in mind sound proofing can be done within a reasonable budget and does not necessarily have to cost the earth. In most cases soundproofing can be done on common walls between neighbors but just make sure that whoever you hire knows what they are doing.

Get Smart While Purchasing Sound and Vibration Control Products

Have you finally decided to set up your home theater in a big way and all excited about planning how to go about it? Bear in mind the fact that purchasing the best sound system available will not make your home theater sound the best. For this you need to ensure your room is sound proof and acoustically treated if you want to enjoy the best sound your system has to offer.

You will be pleasantly surprised to know there are a wide range of sound and vibration control products which can be utilized in order to have the desired effect in your studio. An acoustic door, panels, vinyl noise barriers, duct silencers and pipes, sound isolation clips and the list is just endless. However, it is necessary you spend enough time researching the various products available and ensure you purchase the ideal products which will suit your home theater in every way and provide the desired level of soundproofing.

http://www.acoustiguard.com/products/soundproofing-walls-ceilings/genie-clips.htmlThe best course would be to hire professional help from people who have ample experience in setting up home theaters if you can afford it. They will be able to evaluate your room and find what suits it ideally. It would be excellent if you could take necessary steps required to ward off outside disturbances like footsteps, traffic and other outside sounds which have every chance of creeping into your studio or home theater.

You could choose the best products yourself provided you have time to research and find the best products for the theater you have in mind. Brass traps installed in corners are extremely effective in absorbing the low frequencies which normally builds up and causes the room to sound ‘muddy’. Acoustical panels on the walls are also an excellent way to lower echoes, reverberation and flutter which normally occurs. Remember to treat for the low frequencies first then spot treat to control the mid to highs.

Regardless of whether you are looking around for products to block sound from outside or accessories which will help to absorb sound in a recording studio, there are wonderful Acoustiguard sound and vibration control products available close to Toronto Canada. Just ensure you choose something of good quality and durability in order to ascertain maximum output and effectiveness as far as acoustic performance is concerned. Never make the mistake of settling for low cost sound and vibration control products which are not branded and just purchased based on price. Planning every aspect of your home theater of studio’s construction ahead of time will ensure you are not disappointed with the results.

Build a Sound Proof Home Studio that’s Affordable and Effective

Are you one of those people who love music and always dream of having a fantastic home studio where you can lose yourself in music? With the wonderful strides in technology, this dream can easily be turned into a reality without much difficulty these days. However, you need to keep in mind the fact sound proofing should be excellent in every sense of the word. You will come across a number of sound proofing options to choose from according to your budget and design. Sound proofing implies not only barring the room from noise coming from other parts of the household, but also ensuring the sound inside your studio stays within the four walls and does not disturb the household.

http://www.acoustiguard.com/products/interior-acoustics.htmlYou will come across a wide range of acoustic treatments which can be employed to build your dream home recording studio. It is imperative you go in for something which not only provides excellent sound control but also include products that optimize your room’s interior acoustic as well. Acoustic studio wall panels are made from a variety of materials and it is best to employ a professional who is skilled in this area to decide what’s best for your studio. You can even opt for Eco friendly materials which have been proven to be excellent as far as sound proofing is concerned.

As for doors, it would be ideal to think of double doors although this may not be practical in your home. The next alternative is ensuring your door is made of some material which is quite heavy like solid wood. Make sure there are acoustic seals so there are absolutely no gaps which may let the sound out in any way. Soundproofing is far less expensive than it used to be.  However it still can add up and you may find it stretches the budgets a bit.  Consider this if you are tempted to exclude soundproofing because of cost.  You can always upgrade the interior acoustic later but you can never fix bad soundproofing that deep inside the walls.  The rule is always spending the money on soundproofing first.  That way the room will at least function.

Good news is you can purchase all your acoustic sound proofing materials online which makes it all the more convenient and time saving for you. The is still a wide ranging opinion as to what works for soundproofing and what does not so make sure you do your homework and find reputable companies that are ‘bricks and mortar’ companies and not just internet sellers of sound control products.

Retrofit Soundproofing – How do you know which way to go?

Here are the different suggestions to help control the sound that will be coming from your home theatre or recording studio or just to other parts of the home. Depending on which recommendation you would like to do in the room, there will be different levels of sound control.

GOOD:
-           Add another layer of 5/8” thick drywall using the Green Glue Compound between the layers.
-           Seal all perimeter edges with the Green Glue Noise proofing Sealant.

BETTER:
-           Remove the existing drywall to the studs or joists.
-           Inspect the insulation to ensure still good. If there is none or you are interested in replacing, we recommend using Roxul Safe & Sound Insulation.
-           Install 2 layers of 5/8” thick drywall using the Green Glue Compound between them.
-           Seal all perimeter edges using the Green Glue Noise proofing Sealant.

BEST:
-           Remove existing drywall to the studs or joists.
-           Inspect the insulation to ensure still good. If there is none or you are interested in replacing, we recommend using Roxul Safe & Sound Insulation.
-           Install the Genie Clips and furring channel.

Here are the links to our most recommended products, the GenieClips and Green Glue Compound. Combined these two products help to decouple (GenieClips) and dampen (Green Glue Compound) the sound in a room that can travel through the walls or ceiling to the rest of the house. On our website we have instructional videos available showing how to install the GenieClips  and use the Green Glue Compound.

Here is a link to HGTV’s “Income Property” show where both the GenieClips and Green Glue Compound were used with Roxul Safe & Sound Insulation, and by combining these products together they were able to reduce the airborne noise by approximately 40 decibels from the house to the new basement apartment. The episode’s name is “Mary & Bridge”, and our products are featured at approximately the 27 minute mark or part #5: http://www.hgtv.ca/incomeproperty/video/#incomeproperty/video/season+7. Even though this example shows the products being used on the ceiling, this assembly can be used on walls as well.

While at our website, please have a look at the other products that can be used in different projects (floors, drain pipes, HVAC).
